Cycling Prachuap Khiri Khan - Baan Krut

January 10th Prachuap Khiri Khan - Baan Krut 100km

Today we are doing it on our own.  We saw most of the cyclists at breakfast and said goodbye to the Siam Bikes guide.  We were ready to go as they left but we didn't give chase today.  Maria complained her bike was making a funny noise which turned out to be the tire pushing off the rim.  The Siam guys had put some air in her tire but road bike pressure in our touring tires didn't work, oh well easily fixed.

So randomly the ride started by going through and air force base, even passing the end of the runway.  I wanted to take a few snaps but thought better of it.  We passed the other group in the base and they pointed us in the right direction to get out of the maze of roads.

From here on we used the blackberry and map alot trying to avoid the highway.  In the end we only had to ride on it for 8km.  We rode on a couple of dirt roads and did one big back track that we needn't have done.  We just didn't trust the blackberry map when the dirt road got narrower and rough but as it turned out it was the right road.

We managed to make the ride 25km further than it needed to be and the other groups arrived at lunch time and we arrived at 4pm!  We had a great day though riding at a casual place on back roads and along beaches.  The navigation got better as we progressed and we even found a great hotel for 800baht including breakfast delivered to the room!

Tomorrow is a long day so I guess an early start is in order.
